CalorieCheck app good for
I was suprised at the completeness of this apps database because its only 99 cents. Also settled a couple of bets during dinner with my girlfriend. Pretty awesome!
This is a great application for only 99 cents. I have used other apps that have very limited information about restaurants only. This is not that app! It is LOADED with tons of data on everything from a simple piece of fruit to frozen dinners and tons of other food.
PROS
• Loads pretty quickly
• Search works as you type and quickly
• Very large database of foods
• Local database so no internet connection is required making it much quicker
CONS
• Could use some minor interface refinement such as a bit of white space padding to the left of the search results so they are not up against the edge of the screen.
• It only allows you to type in search results - there is no way to search by category or restaurant.
Overall this app is WELL worth the 99 cents. It is quick, easy, and gets the job done.
It would be nice to see it have restaurant data in the future where you could select a restaurant and view menu details and items at the restaurant. It would also be nice to possibly be able to search by food type. These missing options and the few minor interface enhancements that could be used are the only reason I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars.
Great work John!
The best on-the-go calorie counter I could find! I love that I need no network connection! Best of all, the list of products is very comprehensive and it is easy to use.
This is pretty good. Especially for .99 but I wish it would do one thing more. Just let me click on calories and add to my count so I can see the totals throughout the day.
Im a person that would me amazed by the most simple things but this didnt really amaze me, but then again its only a buck. The list isnt too great , it doesnt have very specific food but I hope they add it in the next update. The list for now will do its well worth the dollar so dont sweat over buying it.
CalorieCheck is a great app with a very thorough food database. Its well worth the price. But at times, theres almost too much information and it can take a bit of scrolling to find what youre looking for. It would be nice if you could save favorites so you wouldnt have to repeatedly search for commonly used items. Also, it provides a list of portion sizes to choose from, but it would be helpful if you could manually edit those sizes and have it automatically recalculate the nutritional info.
Some bad moments
No results for several items Ive searched for.
It would be nice if you could search by category or calorie limit. A favorites list would also be great. Hopefully future updates will add additional functionally.
Seems like a good database. The database seems strangely indexed and is time consuming to search. Also it would be useful if liquids are also indicated in mililitres (cc) and not only fluid ounces or grammes. When I take a galss of wine I measure it in ounces, cups or mililitres, never grammes. There is a great deal of data and the addition of points is really useful to have but needs work on the implimentation to make it really useful. It would be also useful if one could add poins or calories to a daily database to track consumption.
The database is looked fairly comprehensive, and the formatting was similar to that of most Canadian food nutrition labels (probably why things are measured in grams). Thats what initially caught my eye.
Upon further usage, I found that the tables did not format properly. You are also not able to track your total caloric intake like some other apps Ive perused through. The interface is mediocre at best. Predictive typing doesnt kick in immediately.
The dev here seem to be looking for a quick buck. There are probably better web based databases out there that can do a better job. This app is NOT worth the buck I paid for. DO NOT BUY.
This app is a bit ridiculous. Dont get me wrong, the calorie info is in there... The trouble is finding it. Example: rum. Type it in and it brings up everything from crumbs to drumsticks to anything with "rum" in it. Youll find the actual calorie info for rum hidden waaaaaay down the list under spirits, distilled. Its a waste of time. Youll get better results just using the edge network and the Internet.
ok, the name says calorie check, and thats all it does. I would have never bought if I realied it doesnt track what you eat. i read and read the different calorie counter apps and thought they were all trackers. even the fast food one lets you track when you ate taco bell, etc. but i think this is this just a lookup? or am i a dingbat and am missing something obvious like how to track what you eat. Seriously, what good does it do to look it up? its on the bottle or the box. I dont get it, I seriously hope its just me being an idiot becuase if not, this is really rediculous. ADD A TRACKING FEATURE SO YOU CAN LOG BY DAY WHAT YOU EAT!!!
I had high hope when I got this app, but even for 99 cents its pretty disappointing. The lack of % daily value makes this virtually useless for me. Who actually know how many grams of everything is supposed to mean? The database needs to expand a little bit. Save yourself a buck consider you can find all of these and more online for free.
